A struggle that a lot of business owners tend to have is not knowing whether they should or shouldn’t take a certain step when it comes to their business. One of the things that people may even struggle with the most is figuring out how to make their products available to as many people as possible, and the answer to that is usually multi channel retailing. But, since multi channel retailing is something that people tend to be scared of, in this article we are going to talk to you about a few of the multi channel retailing advantages and disadvantages so that you can see for yourself what you would be getting into.
To start off, let’s talk about some of the best things when it comes to selling on multiple channels, and that is that you will be able to find a different channel for different products and make sure that they are in the most optimal place. If you are a business that sells different kinds of products then multi channel retailing will allow you to find your target audience for each of those products and go to the marketplaces or webstores where those customers are. This way you don’t have to wait for them to find you and you can be sure that you will be making money because you are reaching people that want exactly what you are selling.
Making more money and reaching more customers is all great in theory, but unfortunately there are some things about multi channel selling that just aren’t that great. Second on our list of multi channel retailing advantages and disadvantages is the fact that it can be very hard for you to manage your stock when selling on more than one channel. Since you are selling on more places, whether it be brick and mortar stores, online marketplaces, or both, the chances of you double selling a single product are really big and that can really give a very bad impression in the eyes of your customers because they may end up not getting what they ordered, and that really isn’t good for your brand.
Another thing that people aren’t really keen on, but we don’t really find to be much of a problem, is the fact that the expectations of your customers will have to be met on every channel, and definitely isn’t an easy thing to do. The customers see your brand as a whole, and not as separate entities on different platforms, so you need to make sure that the customer care and service is the same for them regardless of where they shop your products. However, this is something that you should always be aiming for anyways, so this to us isn’t so much a problem as it is something that you should consider a goal.
As with most things that have to do with business, there are always going to be some risks that you are going to have to take in order to make the business more successful. Multi channel selling is one of those risks and even though, in our opinion, it is a risk worth taking, we hope that the multi channel retailing advantages and disadvantages that we mentioned in this article will help you make the right decision for your own business.
